Coming into college at UW Oshkosh as a freshman, I was unsure of what I wanted to do. As many students in my position do when faced with this same dilemma, I declared myself as a business major. Throughout my freshman year, I took my gen eds, most of which consisted of courses that were not business classes because I had so many interests in so many other disciplines, and there were so many other classes that seemed interesting to me. I have never been someone who can limit themselves to just doing one thing, so I always felt a bit out of place in my economics, math for business, and introductory business courses. There was so much more that I wanted to know than just what those things were and how they worked.

It was not until I had the opportunity to study abroad that I truly accepted the fact that business was not my forte. After my global experience, I realized that what I was truly interested in was something that would include an array of disciplines, and I knew that I definitely wanted to know more and do more abroad, or to do and/or learn about something internationally. This brought me into the International Studies major.

The biggest question that I get from anyone about International Studies is "What exactly is it?" and "What are you going to do with that?" With pride, my response is always; I have the choice of doing a lot of different things. That is what I enjoy so much about International Studies is because I have gotten the chance to take so many interdisciplinary classes in an array of topics, which has prepared me and both deepened and broadened my knowledge in so many different disciplines that can easily be applicable to many different jobs and opportunities post-graduation.

Choosing the major International Studies has opened so many doors for me to grow both academically and personally. My desire of always wanting to learn more about so many different things also led to me declaring as a double major in both Anthropology and International Studies with an emphasis in European Studies, with a Global Scholar designation. My experience as an International Studies major has allowed me to really look at and refine my own personal skills and knowledge and apply them to the various topics that I have studied, and critically think about things, while maintaining the global view of all of the disciplines in which I have learned about.  It has also vastly opened my eyes and has allowed me to analyze and question the world around me.

My passions are in European Studies and Archaeology, traveling and writing. I have accepted a position as an Archaeology Technician for the Wisconsin Historical Society this summer, so I plan to work there and when I return home, I plan to apply for a graduate program in Archaeology, and apply for other jobs in either archaeology or job opportunities in which I get the chance to work abroad or work for an international company. My ultimate career goals are to be able to do research with European history and to be able to participate and conduct archaeological digs in Europe. I also aspire to write about my travel experience both locally and globally. I have gotten the chance to learn so much throughout my undergraduate experience in International Studies that I can not wait to see where this knowledge and experience takes me next!
